The Heating and Cooling Nature of Tea

Tea can be considered heating or cooling based on its effects on the body's internal balance.

This can be useful information for those who experience extremes of heat or cold within their body.

Read our article to learn how this idea aligns with the holistic practices of Ayurveda and Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Jasmine Pearl is a very special style of green tea.

Tender green tea leaves and a slender bud are skillfully hand rolled into elegant individual pearls which are naturally scented with fresh jasmine flowers.

As well as tasting and smelling delicious, our customers tell us how soothing and calming they find it.

Tea Trends

Green Tea on the Rise

We are noticing a significant increase in the demand for Green Tea.

Some customers are seeking to include it for health reasons and others just love the flavour and goodness in each brewed cup.  If you find yourself with a lingering tickly or sore throat then try this simple and soothing drink - Green Tea with Lemon and Ginger.

Green Tea Mouthwash

Some Japanese tea drinkers have been gargling green tea after meals for years, so we wanted to share this as a great use of  the second steep of your green tea leaves.

According to the National Library of Medicine green tea mouthwash has been shown to have an antibacterial effect on saliva and bacterial plaque and could be a beneficial addition to standard oral hygiene measures.

Tea in the headlines

Tea is increasingly appearing in the lifestyle sections of publications as a healthy, versatile and delicious choice. Here are some recent headlines and article extracts and we couldn't agree more!

It's high time to tap into the versatility of tea (ODT 08/24) - “A revolution is going on in the world of tea. No longer is it just your morning brew to be enjoyed in your slippers and dressing gown - now it is the feature of cocktails to be sipped in your best duds and consumed alongside dainty bites.”

No and low alcohol beverage sales grow (Beverage industry report 08/24) - This article referred to the growth of no and low alcohol beverages. At Stir we know tea fits right into this category beautifully and we shall be sharing some mocktail recipes over the coming NZ summer period, keep an eye out on our facebook page for these!

Tea Tip: How to store your tea to maintain freshness

tea freshness
Part of the process of transforming fresh leaves into the dried tea leaves involves removing around 97% of the moisture..

This makes it shelf stable and when stored properly can serve you well for a good length of time.

Read our blog on the key things to do to keep your tea in great condition.

Parting Message from Michelle

Michelle in Queenstown NZ
Watching the athletes compete at the Olympics has left me in awe of their ability to narrow their focus and distill a life-time of training into one brief moment.

I was curious how they managed their feelings of anxiety and was interested to read an introductory article on this complex topic which said::
"Anxiety is not rational in nature, meaning that in most cases we cannot work through it using logic as our only tool. Most of us find it remarkably difficult to focus on two distinct thoughts or emotions at once so when we concentrate on something unrelated to our worry — such as deep breathing, visualizations of success, pleasurable pursuits, meditation or exercise — then anxiety can dissipate naturally". (extract from the: Daily Om)

Sometimes it is the simple concepts and actions in our day that offer the most power. Simple things like having a tea break and actively engaging with your tea making and drinking rituals, offer us all so much more than just a refreshing beverage.

Wishing you a wonderful Spring.  Happy Tea Times Folks.
